Interesting weekend down in Philly at the casa of Dave and Bekah (two friends from my University days, for those not in the know). It was Dave's b-day on Sunday (today) and Halloween on Friday to boot, so we made a party of the whole thing. A quick summary:
Friday:
Left work early and raced down there and off to a Halloween Party in Philly proper. It was hosted by Henri David, who is apparently a jewlery of some variety and the party (held in a hotel ballroom) is apparently "the" Halloween event in the city. Interesting, that. I've never been to "the" event before. Mr. David is also extremely gay, which set much of the tone for the party. I had a good time, but I have to admit to being a bit creeped out that the biggest costume prize being awarded was for "most convincing male crossdresser."
I dressed as General Zod (from Superman 2), which was funny for me, but unfortunately not enough people got the gag to make it worth while (though there were a few chaps dressed as Superman that I got to yell at, much to my and my friends' amusement). Next time I get dressed up for Halloween, I have to make sure to dress as something more recognizable.
Saturday:
A good, though typical, day about town. IHOP for breakfast, hanging in the afternoon and evening. Had some good meade to drink and watched a bootleg of Pirates of the Carribean. Also was gifted with a Summer Fun Cthulhu by D and B. Jill gave me the first collected volume of MegaTokyo which was all autographed and such. Both are very cool. Why am I getting presents now despite my b-day being 3 months ago? They've been on hold for me since then, basically.
I also got a shave. And let me just say, if you're a guy and you've never had a professional shave, you're really missing out. Grow as much of a beard as you can and then treat yourself. There's hot towels, there's some soothing goo, some burning goo, some more towels, some scraping with the razor, some powder. It's really sheer decadence, complete indulgence. It's like getting a massage specifically for your face.
Sunday
Quiet day, except for the sword-fighting training we did as the last of the celebration. The guy was pretty cool and seemed to know his stuff as far as swinging a sword went. He was wildly inaccurate with a lot of his history, but I know more than is good for me in that regard. He also had a bit too much of an "Irish saved civilization" thing going on; one of your typical Renaissance Faire going neo-Celts of the sort that generally get on my nerves along with their occasional cousins in the New Age/Wiccan crowd.
And now it's home again, home again and back to my regularly scheduled schedule. Recovery tonight and back to work and writing tomorrow.

As a side note, the 5 guys in the group made up for Friday's party by spending Sunday afternoon eating lots of red meat at the local Outback and ogling the cute waitress. There's just something about smashing each other with wooden implements of death that brings out the caveman in all of us.
