Sometimes when you make a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich you use the perfect blend of ingredients. The peanut butter and jelly are thick, but not quite thick enough to overcome the solidity of the bread, and they balance perfectly so that the peanut butter sticks to your mouth just enough to feel it but not in such bulk that the cool, cool jelly won't wipe it away as you chew.
Sometimes you have the perfect little lunch and all is right with the world for hours afterwards.

Yeah, but sometimes the peanut butter is rancid and you can't get that taste out of your mouth for the rest of the day even though you keep trying to wash it down with liquids of increasing strength and intensity and you're so distraught by the taste in your mouth that you forget to throw away the rancid peanut butter so it's wating to attack you the next time you want a sandwich.
Sorry, am I being a downer? Forget I said anything.

I can safely say that I've never had peanut butter go rancid on me.
I did not know that such a thing were possible.

I too can safely say that I have never seen peanut butter go rancid. Of course I've never let it sit around long enough for that possibility.
Jason - to add to the pb&j enjoyment don't forget to add a side order of potato chips. Not sure why, but they do compliment each other well.

Have to disagree with Brian. A juicy sweet peach is the best compliment to a pb&j, particularly if the peach is chilled and both are eaten outside on a warm day while sitting on soft grass or a picnic blanket with a nice sun, caressing breeze, and big shady tree somewhere nearby.
I miss warm weather.

I do, indeed, love potato chips with my PB&J. Good old Peanut Butter & Co. Some of the bestest peanut butter (cinamon flavor, if you ask!) and lightly toasted bread and carrots and pretzels on the side... Oh man. I wonder if you can mail-order their peanut butter...
But... Hhm... I've never put peaches on a PB&J sandwhich before. I've done bananas (and thereby used less jelly - bananas are soft and squishy, themselves) and I've done apples (and thereby used more of both peanut butter and jelly - the hardness of the apple offsetting the squishiness), but never peaches.
Methinks I've something new to try, next time I have a sandwhich of that sort for lunch. Thanks, Jacquee!

They have a machine at Whole Foods where you can make peanut butter fresh straight from the peanuts.
I bet it tastes horrible.

Given that regular peanut butter is so heavily processed and sugared and whatnot to taste as yummy as it does, I'd sort of expect that, yeah, fresh Whole Foods peanut butter would taste pretty rotten.
But you know, just the fact that you can do that is really cool, and I sort of want to try now.
Especially since I just learned last night that there's a Whole Foods right close to me. I just have to figure out which direction it's in...
