A Coupla Hard, Pipe-Hittin' Muppets

Done with classes. Civil Society ended pretty well; Japanese, not so much. Best to put it behind me and move on.

On to New Jersey, for which I fly tomorrow. I'm going to make it a special point of calling and getting together with Doug, because otherwise I'd suck. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone else, too. Especially The Ogreā„¢ and Sarah Who Is Awesome.

E-mail access will be spotty. Blog posting will be a non-starter. I'll return not long after New Year's.

To keep you busy while I'm away, a thought:

Pulp Fiction as played by the Muppets. Played straight, mind you, with all of the actual dialogue intact. Either done with the Muppets' voices or with the original voice tracks; jury's still out on that.

And now a question:

How would you cast this cinematic masterpiece? Who gets the role of Vincent? Who gets Jules? Etc.

Please, discuss.

Eric:

You know, just thinking about that makes my head hurt. I will now be forever haunted by images of Fozzie Bear jabbing adrenneline into Miss Piggy's chest.

Erik:

Oh God oh God oh God it's in my brain now.

I'd go with Kermit as Vincent and Fozzie as Jules.

The big ogre monster guy as Marvin.

Scooter as Jimmy.

Piggy as Mia Wallace, of course. Rowlf as Marsellus Wallace.

Mr. Teeth as Winston Wolf.

Gonzo and Camilla as Butch and Fabienne.

Sam the Eagle as Zed. Lew Zealand the Boomerang Fish Thrower as the other guy (Paul?). Animal as the Gimp.

With special guest Christopher Walken.

Ben:

I agree with Erik except on:

Grover as Marvin.

Bert and Ernie as Brett and Roger, with an old favorite of mine, Don Music, as the fourth man in the bathroom.

The Other Guy from the hillbilly junk shop was named Maynard. He got killed by a samurai sword. He should be played by Oscar.

Also, as Pumpkin and Honey Bunny, I could not conceivably give it to Elmo and Zoey, because neither one dies. Maybe the two-headed purple monster who teaches compound words and hung out with Cab Calloway could be both Pumpkin and Honey Bunny.

No! Wait! The Count! I can't believe I forgot about the Count! He could be Pumpkin:

Jules: How much money is in my wallet?

Pumpkin: About fifteen hundred dollars -- AH AH AH! (Thunder & lightning)

Doing it that way would, of course, free up the part of Honey Bunny for Red Fraggle. With a guest appearance by Maria as Esmerelda Villalobos. Sadly, it appears that there is no role for Big Bird.

Destroying our memories of childhood is fun!

Jason:

Erik called my casting almost perfectly, though I'd have had Ving Rhames be the special guest and cast Sam as Christopher Walken's character.

Ben, casting Zed, Maynard, the Gimp, Brett (&c) and Pumpkin & Honeybunny as Sesame Street / Fraggle Rock characters is perfect. They're not Muppet Show cast, so naturally they're outside the gangster lifestyle that the main cast of Pulp Fiction (mostly) shares.

(Which probably does mean that Christopher Walken should be a human and Marcellus should be a Muppet - Rowlf's fine, though Dr. Teeth would be better, I think.)

All the same, Ben, keep it in-show. If Red is Honeybunny, cast Wembly as Pumpkin. I mean, hell, he even has the right shirt for the role!

Ben:

I thought about Wembley, but Wembley would make a much better Lance. Wembley is the stoner, right? Or is that Boober? One is on pot and one has OCD and is coked out of his mind, as I recall.

Jason:

Wembly's pretty coked out of his mind, yeah - always spazzing out about something or other, can't make up his mind, got the shakes...

Boober's the OCD Fraggle - the one who does the laundry. Wouldn't peg him as on coke or pot, though...

Erik:

Ok, you can stop raping my childhood now.
